The alliance of men, the state and capital continues its pressure and exploitation over our labor, bodies and identities. In the past year we women were again Pippa and were murdered; we were beaten by our fathers, harassed on the streets and at work, made into men’s honour and killed; because we are leftists, Kurdish, prostitutes, in truth women, we faced state violence. The cooperation of men, the judiciary and the state both disregarded the beatings, harassment and rape inflicted on us and tried to protect our killers under the excuse of unjust provocation. We were not silent and will not be silent. Shout so everyone hears, let men’s violence end!
Conservatism continues its oppression of our spaces of life. Nationalism, with the lies of “May the homeland live!” and its spirit of hostility to the siblinghood of peoples, advises us for dying and killing; religious conservatism advises us for the glorification of the family and male-dominated religious values.
Where and how we cover our bodies and how we dress remain a battleground between militarism and political Islam.
Neither our skirt length, hairstyle, shirt nor trousers are invitations to men. We dress as we please, fish as we please, and roam the streets at night as we please. Our bodies belong neither to fathers, husbands, the state nor other heavenly authorities.
Our bodies are ours!
In working life, which we enter at lower wages than men while at the same time taking the burden of housework onto our shoulders, now, under the excuse of the crisis, they either forget equal wages for equal work and make us work in men’s place, or we are the first to be fired. Capital wants to make us pay the price of its internal struggle for survival and, with the assistance of the neoliberal state, tries to secure its internal agreement.
At the request of the IMF and capital, after all our rights such as childcare and healthcare were cut through the SSGSS and employment laws of 2008 by the AKP, the enemy of women and workers, the choice before us is this: either remain hungry or work for slave wages. The alliance of male domination and capital continues to appropriate our labor through men in our prisons called families. Under the physical and emotional pressure of fathers and husbands, we are always responsible for cooking, washing dishes, washing clothes, and caring for children and older people.
Enough now, our labor is ours!
Let us stop doing housework, let the world stop!
Invisible labor, raise your voice!
We continuously pay the price of policies of hatred and violence that we did not decide. While denial and annihilation of the Kurdish people are carried out through war policies, we know that every cross-border operation, every bomb dropped from planes, every mine that explodes will return to us women as poverty, harassment and rape. The voice of the Kurdish women’s movement rising from Dersim, Amed, Dolapdere and Bağcılar strengthens our voice. Our 15 women mayoral candidates selected by the Democratic Free Women’s Movement in winnable positions in Kurdistan’s provinces also raise the voice of struggle against men’s domination alongside the voice of peace and siblinghood. We demand a democratic political solution to the Kurdish question!
Woman, Life, Freedom!
We are again in an election period. Male domination’s identical parties want our votes, but they promise a corner of paradise or public places where uniform skirt suits cover everything. Men’s politics does not see us women as political subjects. But in these elections we said enough… We feminists of Istanbul also said: “We are in politics too, we have something to say for Beyoğlu!” “In this year’s local elections, women have a voice! Feminists have a voice!”
Of course, if we want to be decision-makers, not voters!
Let us support our candidate Saime Ülfet Taylı Taş!
Let us support and strengthen the feminist movement!
Today, March 8, 2009, we feminists wish all women a happy March 8.
We say we want the world, not just one day; we say let us gather in Taksim in 2010, on the centenary of the recognition of the history written in working women’s blood and given to all women of every nation, whether rural, urban, housewives, married mothers, unmarried, employed or unemployed.
Long Live Women’s Solidarity!
Long Live Our Feminist Struggle!
Long Live Women’s Unity!

The Kurdish-language 2009 statement calls for women’s solidarity, feminist political participation and resistance to violence and exploitation.

[54,206
24,27,28
["post-1738","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-54","category-basin-aciklamasi-2009","tag-basin-aciklamasi","tag-daxuyaniya-capemeniye","tag-kurtce
["GET
