To the Public,<\/span><\/p>\n

The March 8 Feminist Night March is an action that feminist women and LBTI individuals have held together since 2003 against patriarchy, male violence, sexism, heterosexism, capitalism, militarism, imperialism and war. As women in the HDP\/HDK Women’s Assembly, many of us have participated, and continue to participate, in March 8 Feminist Night Marches organized by the feminist movement.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year, just as in previous years, calls for the March 8 Feminist Night March were organized weeks in advance. The entire public knew that the march’s format was a march with women only, without party\/organizational flags.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year’s Feminist Night March ended with certain organizations, including M\u00fccadele Birli\u011fi, EKA, Kald\u0131ra\u00e7 and Partizan, intervening against the women marchers in front of the police barricade. This attitude was an intervention against women’s will and a transformed manifestation of the violence against women and LGBTI individuals that we have fought for years. Subsequently, Partizan issued a self-critical statement, but the other organizations moved to defend their attitudes with various justifications and accuse the feminist marchers. One of these defenses concerns the overlap of actions. Undoubtedly, everyone has the right to hold independent actions. However, holding actions that coincide with a march whose tradition has been known for years, announced weeks in advance and whose subjects are women, moreover on March 8 itself, is acceptable neither in revolutionary solidarity nor in women’s solidarity.<\/span><\/p>\n

When participants in the Feminist Night March organized by IFK arrived, the mixed groups should have withdrawn. Not only did they fail to do so, but their refusal to lower their flags despite the warning, the men’s refusal to leave the area and their turning the argument into violence are unacceptable. Nor can this intervention be excused on the grounds of resisting the police barricade. For the right to resist an obstruction also belongs to the participants of the feminist march and to IFK, which organized it. The breaking of the longstanding closure of \u0130stiklal Avenue to demonstrations, through the HDK\/HDP Women’s Assembly’s candidate-introduction march in the morning and the determined, enthusiastic\/angry march of thousands of women participating in the Feminist Night March in the evening, is itself resistance to the police barricade. It is also wrong to belittle the women’s march’s line of resistance through the defenses and accusations on this matter in the texts of organizations other than Partizan.<\/span><\/p>\n

The place to resolve debates concerning the women’s movement is, again, women’s organizations and the women’s movement itself. Our minimum common ground is that we will never accept a discussion shaped by men or an outside intervention in the women’s movement.<\/span><\/p>\n

As also emphasized in the HDP party program: “Our Party, which believes in women’s organization as the fundamental force in women’s struggle for liberation and freedom, struggles to remove every obstacle to women’s organizing and maintains relations with the women’s liberation movement, fights for substantive and real equality against the inequality experienced by women relegated to the background in economic, societal, political, legal, cultural and social spheres because of the male-dominated system.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Recalling that the feminist movement is one of the fundamental forces of the women’s movement, and that its contributions to women’s struggle and social struggles are gains for us all, we declare our solidarity with IFK and call on the organizations concerned that intervened in the march to adopt a self-critical attitude.<\/span><\/p>\n
