2014: March 1 Invitation to the Press
WOMEN WILL NOT ABANDON THE STREETS OR THE SQUARES!
The Istanbul Feminist Collective invites all women and trans people to the twelfth Feminist Night March. The march, starting outside Galatasaray High School on Saturday, March 8, will raise voices against patriarchy, male violence, sexism, heterosexism, capitalism, militarism, imperialism and war. The platform’s call for the march, which begins at 19:00, is as follows:
We are meeting at Galatasaray at 19:00 for the twelfth March 8 Feminist Night March!
Since last March 8, we have passed through another year of continuing, intensifying attacks on women. Every new day, we read news of another woman’s death. Murderers and rapists go unpunished. The state tries to prevent divorces, not male violence. The AKP did not dare tamper with our right to abortion legally, but it has taken that right away in practice; we are turned away at the doors of public hospitals. They are drafting laws that will condemn us to flexible and insecure working conditions. While the pressures on us continue to grow, we do not give up struggling and revolting against male domination!
For eleven years, every March 8, we feminists have held a night march in Taksim. The AKP government, attacking every area of our lives, is also trying to take from us the route we march along. Despite all the bans, we will gather in Taksim again and raise our voices.
In the twelfth year of our Feminist Night March, we will be in the streets at night on another March 8, making noise against patriarchy, male violence, sexism, heterosexism, capitalism, militarism, imperialism and war.
