Statement on the March 8 Night March from SYKP Women
The Socialist Refoundation Party’s Istanbul Women’s Assembly issued a statement on events at the March 8 Feminist Night March and subsequent accusations from certain socialist circles.
The statement reads:
“What happened at the 12th Feminist Night March, organized from Galatasaray High School to Taksim on the night of March 8 following calls issued weeks in advance, is unacceptable to us, the Socialist Refoundation Party’s Istanbul Women’s Assembly.
The obstruction by certain socialist groups, including insults and violence, of an established feminist action whose date and location had been announced has unfortunately provided a concrete example of how male domination, violence against women and transphobic violence can confront us everywhere. We announce that we understand this conduct, which political ethics would clearly prohibit against another mixed socialist organization’s action, as violence against women on International Women’s Day, and we condemn it.
While we find the statement issued by Partizan following the incident sincere, we criticize the texts shared by Kaldıraç and Mücadele Birliği for legitimizing what happened.
