At around 11.00 this morning, along with the Istanbul Feminist Collective page, the Facebook pages “Women’s Initiative for Peace, Urgent Action Against Femicides, Abortion Is a Right, the Decision Is Women’s, We Stand for Life, Not Death” were also hacked. The women administering the groups were removed and new administrators appointed.
The hackers closed the event for the 14th Feminist Night March to be held on March 8 on the Istanbul Feminist Collective page, announced it had been postponed and opened a new event. They called on women to come to Fatih on Friday, March 10. By creating confusion, they sought to prevent participation in the event that, as always, would take place in Taksim (starting in front of the French Cultural Center) on Tuesday, March 8, at 19.00.
The Istanbul Feminist Collective page’s followers, the feminist night march’s organizers, the women who would join the night march… who received this notification around 21.30 practically turned the world upside down. On the one hand they tried to announce far and wide that the March 8 Night March had not been canceled and opened a new event page. On the other, they reached Facebook administrators through three to five different channels.
After a period of 4 hours, all the pages were recovered.
