The first meeting was held on January 26, 2017. On January 26, only those who had participated in previous years met and issued a call for the next meeting.
Call to a meeting for the March 8 Feminist Night March
A call to women and trans people;
In the 15th year of the March 8 Feminist Night March, we will once again be in Taksim.
Since last March 8, attacks targeting our lives have not slowed down; each new day we have found ourselves in a new struggle. Bombs fell on our lives; they wanted to pardon child rapists and marry off girls. The “divorce commission” set its sights on women’s freedom, their right to determine their own lives and their right to alimony. At the end of a year spent in an atmosphere of violence, the state of emergency we have been living under for more than 6 months has increased male-dominated oppression and control over our lives. Under this state of emergency, women have been left extraordinarily unprotected and insecure. Male violence, femicides and hate crimes against LGBTI+ people have not slowed down. The institutions they should be able to reach when they experience violence have become inoperative; women’s associations have been closed and countless women have lost their jobs.
We women, however, chose solidarity and growing stronger together over surrendering to despair. In these days when a constitutional amendment that will deeply affect all our lives is being put before us, we have not given up the streets or one another.
Now, this March 8, drawing strength from the crowds we formed in previous years, we will be together again.
As feminist women who want to organize this March 8 together, we meet at Feminist Mekan on Friday evening, February 3, at 19.00.
